Birdhouse Generator

Pick the bird you want to house. The floor, the height and the entrance hole follow the bird, and the roof sits on tabs so you can lift it off to clean the box out each winter.

3D Print Design

Both files hold the print parts laid out on the bed, with no supports needed. In the 3MF each part is its own object, so your slicer can spread them over several plates.

3MF preserves richer print metadata when your slicer supports it.

About

This birdhouse generator lays out a finger-jointed nest box with a gabled roof. The species list follows published nest box charts: a chickadee gets a 102 mm floor and a 28.6 mm hole about 150 mm above it, and a bluebird gets a 127 mm floor and a 38.1 mm hole.

There is no perch option. Cavity-nesting birds don't need one, and a perch helps sparrows and predators more than the birds you built the box for. The roof slots onto tabs instead of being glued all round, so you can lift a panel off at the end of the season and clear out the old nest.

A 3 mm box is fine as a decoration or a test fit. For a box that hangs outside, use exterior plywood 6 mm or thicker and leave the inside unpainted.
