Public and Private Designer Profiles

A designer profile is an optional public page at mylasertools.com/u/your-handle where you can introduce yourself and link out to your shop and socials.

It is completely opt-in. You do not have a public profile unless you choose to create one, and even after you claim a handle nothing is public until you deliberately turn your profile on. This guide explains exactly what is shown, what is never shown, and who can see it.

Profiles are off by default

Having a MyLaserTools account does not give you a public profile. Nothing about your account is published anywhere unless you take two separate, deliberate steps.

Claim a handle. This reserves your name at /u/your-handle. It publishes nothing on its own, it just holds the name for you.
Turn your profile public. Only after you flip the "Profile is public" switch does a page appear at your handle. Until then, visiting /u/your-handle returns a not-found page for everyone, including you in a signed-out browser.

Because claiming and publishing are two different actions, you can reserve a handle you like and take your time filling out the profile before anyone can see it.

Every field is opt-in

Inside your profile, each optional detail has its own visibility switch, and every switch starts off. Turning your profile public shows only the things you have explicitly switched on.

Display name - shown if you set one. If you leave it blank, your profile shows your handle, never your real account name.
Avatar - hidden until you switch it on, and empty until you add a picture yourself.
Bio - shown if you write one.
Location - hidden unless you switch it on.
Join date - hidden unless you switch it on, and only ever shows the month and year, never a day or time.
Design count - the number of designs you have shared, shown unless you switch it off.
Links - up to five links to your website, shop, or socials.

What is never shown

Some information is tied to your account for sign-in and is deliberately kept out of every public page, with no switch to expose it:

Your email address.
Your real name from Google sign-in. Your display name is its own field that falls back to your handle, never to your Google name.
Your Google profile photo. Your avatar starts empty. You can choose "Use my Google picture" as a one-time action, but it is never copied in automatically.
Any internal account identifier or role.

This is the most important thing to understand: signing in with Google never leaks your real name or Google photo onto a public profile. Those are only ever added by an explicit choice you make.

What a visitor actually sees

A public profile shows your display name (or handle), and only the optional fields you switched on, plus any links you added. Hidden fields are not shown as blank or greyed out, they are simply absent. Use Preview as visitor in your settings to see how your page will look with your current settings, including edits you have not saved yet.

All outbound links open in a new tab and are marked so search engines do not treat them as endorsements. While your profile has no shared designs yet, the page also asks search engines not to index it.
