Making stocking name tags with the Stocking Tag Generator
Difficulty: easy. Time: 5 minutes design, 10-15 minutes per tag. Best method: two-color laser-cut acrylic or plywood.
Hang one of these from the stocking hook and nobody mixes up whose chocolate is whose. Type the name in Tag Text and the tool sets it in connected script on a stocking silhouette riding a tag plate. Pick the Tag Shape - Rectangle or Rounded - then balance Stocking Size against Name Text Size and set the Hole Size for ribbon. The export splits into a Base Layer and a Text Layer so two-color builds line up perfectly.

What You'll Need
- Laser cutting: 3 mm acrylic in Christmas red, white, or glitter, or laser-grade plywood
- Assembly: 3M 467 tape or CA glue for the two-layer version
- Finishing: ribbon or twine
Step 1 - Name and shape
Enter the name and pick Rectangle or Rounded for the tag plate. Choose a flowing script font - the names on these tags are the entire design, so audition a few.
Step 2 - Balance the layout
- Stocking Size sets the silhouette; Name Text Size scales the script - long names want a wider tag.
- Set Hole Size to 4-5 mm so ribbon threads easily.
- Around 80-100 mm wide hangs nicely from a mantel hook without hiding the stocking.
Step 3 - Export the SVG
Download the SVG - Base Layer and Text Layer come out as separate paths for two-material cutting, or run both as one job for a single-color tag.
Choose Your Build Method
Laser cutting
- Cut the base from red or glitter acrylic and the text layer from white for the candy-cane contrast.
- Bond the text to the base with 3M tape - align the stocking toe first, the rest follows.
- Single-material option: cut the base and engrave the name instead of stacking.
- Tie to the stocking hook with ribbon through the hole.
Make It Yours
- Make the whole household's set in one session - including the pets.
- Glitter gold base with white text reads luxe against velvet stockings.
- Engrave the year on the stocking heel for annual editions.
- Use them as oversized gift tags on the big presents that will not wrap.
- Walnut plywood with engraved names suits farmhouse mantels.
- Mini versions become wine-glass charms at Christmas dinner.
- Match fonts with the Christmas Ornament Generator for a coordinated mantel-and-tree look.
