Making laser-cut earrings with the Earrings Generator
Difficulty: easy. Time: 10 minutes design, 10-20 minutes making. Best methods: laser-cut acrylic, 3D printed lightweight pairs.
Earring blanks live or die on symmetry and hole placement, and this tool nails both for you. Pick an Earring Shape - circle, drop, arch up, arch down, cutout arch, half circle, square, octagon, cloud, leaves and more - then optionally fill it with an engraved Pattern like Leaf Veins, Palm Leaves, Wood Grain, Organic Flow, or Ripple Waves. Top and bottom Jump Ring Holes are positioned on the shape's axis, so dangles hang straight every time.

What You'll Need
- Laser cutting: 2-3 mm acrylic - glitter, marble, and frosted sheets are earring royalty - or 3 mm laser-grade plywood for boho wood pairs
- 3D printing: any FDM printer; lightweight PLA pairs are comfortable even at large sizes
- Findings: earring hooks or studs, jump rings, two pairs of pliers
Step 1 - Shape and pattern
Choose the shape and set the Diameter - 25-40 mm is the comfortable dangle range. Add a pattern if you want texture; patterns export as engrave paths inside the cut outline, so they cost nothing structurally. Outline Thickness thickens the frame on cutout styles like the Cutout Arch.
Step 2 - Holes
- Turn on the Top Hole for the hook connection and size it with Jump Ring Hole Size - 1.5-2 mm suits standard jump rings.
- Enable the Bottom Hole too if you plan two-tier dangles; chaining an arch over a drop is the classic combo.
- Keep at least 1.5 mm of material around each hole or acrylic will crack at the pliers stage.
Step 3 - Export
Download SVG for the laser, or STL/3MF at 1.5-2.5 mm thickness for printing. Cut or print everything in pairs - the file is one earring, so duplicate and mirror in your slicer or laser software when a shape is asymmetric.
Choose Your Build Method
Laser cutting
- Engrave the pattern first at low power - on frosted or glitter acrylic, a light kiss-engrave looks etched-glass elegant.
- Cut the outline and holes in one pass; small holes cut cleanest slightly slower than your outline speed.
- Leave the masking on through both passes, then peel for flawless faces.
- Open a jump ring sideways with two pliers, thread the blank and the hook, and close it flush.
Make It Yours
- Stack a patterned top arch over a solid drop in a contrasting color for two-tier statement pairs.
- Wood Grain pattern on real walnut plywood is a double-texture trick that always sells.
- Cut the same shape in three sizes for a graduated set: studs, mediums, statements.
- Frosted clear acrylic with the Ripple Waves pattern looks like sea glass.
- Make seasonal drops: clouds for spring, leaves for fall, octagons in metallic for the holidays.
- Use the bottom hole to hang tiny charms or beads below the blank.
- Mirror asymmetric shapes so left and right earrings face each other on the card.
