# Making a plate keychain with the License Plate Charm Generator

A mini novelty plate makes a great keyring or bag charm. Start from a preset like WORLD'S BEST DAD, then edit the lines and drop the hanger ring wherever it looks best along the top.

It defaults to a small keychain size, but you can type anything and scale it up.

## What you need

- Two-tone acrylic, for example [brushed gold engraves black](https://yxecreations.com/products/two-tone-engravable-acrylic-brushed-gold-engraves-black)
- A laser, or an FDM printer
- A split ring or keyring for the hole

## Step 1 - Text and size



Pick a preset or type your own top, main, and bottom lines, each with its own font. Set the plate size; small is the default keychain scale.

## Step 2 - Hanger ring



Turn on the hanger ring and slide it along the top edge; it stays welded to the plate wherever you place it. Set the ring and hole sizes to fit your keyring.

## Laser cutting

### Cut and clip



Download the SVG: the outline and ring cut, the text engraves. Add a split ring through the hole.

## 3D printing

### Print it in two colours



Set the thickness in the 3D preview and export a 3MF. The base and the raised detail are separate coloured objects, so a multi-material printer lays them down in two colours with no painting. STL works too for a single-colour print you can paint or leave bare.
