Set the thickness slider to your actual sheet thickness before exporting. Every finger joint is derived from it, so a 0.2 mm error is the difference between a press fit and a rattle. Measure the sheet rather than trusting the label.

Can I make a solid-walled crate without slats?

Yes. Set slat gaps to zero for solid walls. You can also keep the walls solid and turn off the carry handles for a plain finger-jointed box.
